Known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and biodiversity, Ceylon has been famous for its tea production (Ceylon tea), spices such as Cinnamon, and gemstones. Sri Lanka has a long history, with influences from various civilizations, including ancient kingdoms, Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonizers. Today, it’s a popular tourist destination for its beaches, wildlife, and historical sites.

What is Ceylon Cinnamon

Ceylon Cinnamon, also known as “true Cinnamon” (Cinnamomum verum), originates from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). It has a lighter, sweeter flavor compared to cassia Cinnamon. Ceylon Cinnamon is considered of higher quality and has a delicate, fragrant aroma. It is known for its thin, soft layers of bark that can be easily ground into powder. Ceylon Cinnamon also contains lower levels of coumarin, a compound that can be harmful in large amounts, making it a preferred choice for regular consumption. Sri Lanka produces about 80-90% of the world’s true Cinnamon, also known as Ceylon Cinnamon. The country is the largest and most important producer of this high-quality spice, with much of its production being exported to global markets.
